Master Bedroom

opposites attract

Combine different design styles for a look that’s uniquely your own. Here’s how we merged rustic farmhouse with modern luxury – and added a touch of industrial, too!

Design lesson: STICK WITHIN A PALETTE

Combining different styles is intriguing enough: don’t complicate matters with a busy colour palette, too. We grouped a modern chair with a rustic bedside table and farmhouse-style table lamp. Because all fall within the room’s palette of white and grey tones, it looks effortlessly pulled together.

Try this: CHOOSE A FABRIC HEADBOARD FOR A LOOK YOU CAN BOTH LOVE

Fabric headboards complement a variety of decorating styles. Button tufts give this one a luxe, boutique-hotel aesthetic but its neutral colour keeps it in neutral territory for lovers of simpler, rustic design.

Design tip #1: MIX YOUR WOOD TONES

Don’t be afraid to mix your woods. This room pairs blonde wood floors with painted shiplap walls (white and charcoal for contrast) and furniture stained in two different hues. Because all are neutral hues the look is eclectic, not overwhelming.

Did you know? THE WARMER SIDE OF INDUSTRIAL

Industrial style is known for its clean, minimalist design and hardwearing materials. This dresser’s deep, rich hardwood and gunmetal details give it a cool, salvaged aesthetic. Industrial is a 20th century design style that only gets hotter with age.
