DIY

make it happen with easy tutorials

Welcome guests with a festive front door. Set the scene with an illuminated winterscape. Wrap things up at a super-organized craft station. Best part? Zero waste, zero clutter! All key pieces can be “de-festivated” after the holidays.

CABINET TO WRAP STATION

Organize wrapping paper, cards and craft supplies in a cabinet or buffet. Drawers, doors and cubbies keep everything organized and accessible. After the holiday rush, you could return the cabinet to its original purpose – or keep it crafty if your 2020 plans include DIY!

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • - buffet/cabinet: like our Ironworks Server and Bar Cabinet IRONMDSV
  • - craft supplies such as tape, scissors, ribbons, boxes, gift bags, stamps, glitter, wrapping paper rolls, stickers, etc.
  • - magnetic strip

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Step 1: Use drawers to store tissue papers and all your trimmings.
  • Step 2: For easy access and to keep ribbons neat and orderly, hang them on the towel bar.
  • Step 3: Keep wrapping paper rolls perfectly organized by placing them in the open-shelf wine storage area.
  • Step 4: Store gift boxes, bags and other supplies in the glass cupboards for ease of use and visual impact.
  • Step 5: Use the pull-down drawer as a handy workspace.
  • Step 6: Mount a magnetic strip to keep sharp tools out of the way.

INTERIOR CONTAINER TO PORCH DECOR

Moving indoor accessories outdoors is an effortless way to give your front porch instant curb appeal. Deck your door with seasonal greens, berries and foliage in a metal basket. Post-holidays, remove the seasonal elements and move it back indoors or save it for patio season.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • - container: Try our Metal Basket 34954. Find it in store.
  • - gardening gloves, pruning tools, ribbon or twine, over-the-door hanger, string lights, floral foam, branches, winterberries, holly (from evergreen trees or a greenhouse) or artificial berry sprigs and holiday ornaments

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Step 1: Select a container that fits the scale of your door and insert floral foam.
  • Step 2: Wear gloves to protect your hands and use a pruning tool to cut branches to desired lengths.
  • Step 3: Insert branches into the floral foam, deep enough to ensure solid support. Layer a variety of branches to add texture and colour for dimension.
  • Step 4: Embellish with holly, winterberries or even ornaments.
  • Step 5: Add a ribbon for visual impact.
  • Step 6: Include some string lights for sparkle.
  • Step 7: Create a ribbon handle to hook onto over-the door wreath hanger.

LANTERN TO MAGICAL WINTER SCENE

Create an enchanted lantern-scape – all it takes is paper, glue and flameless LED tea lights or candles. Start with cut-out paper – you can design your own or buy pre-cut patterns at a craft store. Glue the paper onto the lantern and add LED candles. Après-holiday, spray the lanterns with warm water and gently scrape off the paper, or save them for next year.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • - glass lantern: Our Reavis Galvanized Lantern 171270CH is ideal. Find it in store.
  • - pre-cut designs or selected papers, brushes, PVA glue or Mod Podge®, scissors and/or craft knife, ruler, slightly damp cloth and battery-operated candle

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Step 1: Prepare the lantern: if possible, remove glass lantern from metal part. Ensure it is free of dust or dirt and is completely dry.
  • Step 2: If not using a pre-cut pattern, gather your selected papers and cut out design. Then arrange them the way you’d like.
  • Step 3: Apply glue to back of cutouts and stick them onto the glass lantern surface.
  • Step 4: Use a slightly damp cloth to press out wrinkles or creases.
  • Step 5: Repeat steps 3 & 4 with remaining cutouts.
  • Step 6: Apply a final layer of glue on top of finished design to protect and seal it. Let it dry.
  • Step 7: Reassemble lantern and insert battery-operated candle.
